Shark Stratos DuoClean PowerFins HairPro Upright Vacuum AZ3002

The Shark Stratos AZ3002 is corded, not cordless, and at 22.71 lb (10.3 kg) it sits in the bottom quarter of upright vacuums in our catalogue for weight. Its full name is Stratos DuoClean PowerFins HairPro Upright Vacuum, and it is aimed at homes that mix carpet and hard floors and have pets. It runs on 120 V mains with a 25 ft cord, even though searches for the Stratos sometimes use the word cordless.

What the Shark Stratos is built for

The headline feature is the DuoClean PowerFins HairPro nozzle with a self-cleaning brushroll. Shark says the brushroll is designed to pick up pet hair without wrapping it around the roll, which is the reason to look at this model if you have a long-haired household or pets.

The second feature is Powered Lift-Away. The pod lifts away from the base for motorized cleaning under furniture, or the nozzle detaches for cleaning above the floor. With a 3 ft hose and the included tools, that covers stairs, upholstery and tight spots.

Filtration is a sealed system: felt and washable foam pre-motor filters, plus a HEPA filter after the motor. Shark states that its Anti-Allergen Complete Seal works with the HEPA filter to trap 99.99% of dust and allergens inside the vacuum (tested to ASTM F1977 for particles of 0.3 microns or larger). That is a manufacturer claim about the vacuum's filtration, not a medical benefit. The Stratos also has Odor Neutralizer Technology, which Shark says guards against odors inside the vacuum, and LED headlights.

Weight, cord and bin size against other uprights

• Weight. 22.71 lb (10.3 kg) is in the bottom quarter for upright weight, against a catalogue median of 15.19 lb (6.89 kg). Carrying it up a flight of stairs means lifting the whole machine, or using the lift-away pod and hose for the stairs themselves.
• Cord. 7.62 m is also in the bottom quarter for upright cable length; the median is 9.1 m. Expect to swap outlets more often in a large home.
• Bin. The 1.4 L cup is in the lower half for capacity, with a median of 1.6 L, so a heavy-shedding household will empty it often.

The five-year limited warranty listed on Shark's page is the other end of the picture, though it simply matches the 5-year median for uprights in our catalogue.

Who may get on with it, and who should look elsewhere

The specs point to pet owners with mixed flooring who want one machine for rugs, hardwood and the occasional flight of stairs. The sealed HEPA design suits people who want a HEPA filter, and a bagless cup means no bags to buy, though you empty it yourself. Because it is corded, there is no battery runtime to watch or battery to replace.

Look elsewhere if you want a light machine to carry, a long reach from each outlet, or a large bin. Those are the three places this model trails most uprights in our catalogue.

What the specs leave out

• Unpublished figures. Shark does not publish suction in watts or a noise level for this model, so there is no number to compare on those points.
• Variants. Retailers sometimes list a variant under a similar name, so match the AZ3002 model number.
• Warranty terms. Read the terms before buying, and check whether a refurbished or third-party listing carries the same coverage.

Shark Stratos AZ3002 price and what to check before ordering

Before you compare listings of the Shark Stratos, confirm the model number reads AZ3002. Retailers sometimes list a variant under a similar name, so a matching title alone is not enough. Check the colour too: the version described here is navy.

Next, look at what is in the box. The box includes a crevice tool, an upholstery tool, the HairPro self-cleaning pet power brush and an Odor Neutralizer cartridge. A listing that leaves any of these out is a different package, even if the machine is the same.

The five-year limited warranty is Shark's own term, so read its conditions on Shark's page rather than assuming a seller adds anything.

The offers list below is live and changes. Prices on this page currently start around $247.77, but only compare entries that share the same model code and tool set. When you search for a Shark AZ3002 price, the useful number is the one for the identical package, not the lowest figure on screen.

Alternatives to consider

Side-by-side pages set the Stratos against the Shark Detect Pro and the Rotator Lift-Away.

For another corded Shark upright, the PowerDetect upright bundle page covers its specs and live offers.

A third page covers the Rotator Pet, and upright vacuums from Shark lists the corded range.

If you want an upright without a pod and hose, the wider corded upright vacuums category lists other formats. If this size is more than you need, browse the full Shark range, which includes lighter machines. When you are ready to compare sellers, the prices section above tracks current offers.
