  • Brand: Miele

Every Miele vacuum in our US catalog is a canister, and the weight spread is wide: from 11.5 lb (5.2 kg) for the lightest Classic C1 up to 19.0 lb (8.6 kg) for the Blizzard CX1, against a brand median of 16.1 lb (7.3 kg). The 1 Miele models we list fall into three families (Classic C1, Guard and Blizzard CX1). If you were hoping for a Miele upright or cordless stick, our catalog does not include one (more on that in the FAQ below).

What the Miele canister range looks like

Canister vacuums keep the motor and dust container in a body you pull behind you, with a wand and floor head in your hand. Compared with an upright machine, that usually means a lighter hand-held end and easier reach under furniture and up stairs, at the cost of dragging a body around. Weight in the table below is the body weight listed for each model. The Miele canister vacuums page groups the same models by family.

If you are still deciding between brands, our vacuum brand hub lists the others, and the Bissell lineup page is a useful contrast if you are weighing a brand known for uprights and carpet care.

Classic C1, Guard and Blizzard CX1 compared

Classic C1 is the lightest group, at 5.2 to 12.8 lb (5.8 kg), and the one with the biggest listed dust capacity (4.5 L). The 11.5 lb (5.2 kg) Pure Suction and Pure Suction HomeCare are the lightest Miele models in the roster. The listed features are mostly mechanical: a 6-stage rotary suction selector, a stainless steel telescopic wand and automatic cord rewind on the Pure Suction, and a 1200 W Vortex motor with a 29 ft (9 m) operating radius on the Turbo Team. The HomeCare version adds a HEPA AirClean exhaust filter.

Guard models weigh more (6.7 to 16.1 lb (7.3 kg)) and lean on electronic controls. The Guard L1 Electro lists automatic mode suction adjustment, an LCD display and footswitch suction control, while the other Guard L1 lists four power levels with plus/minus foot controls. The Guard M1 Cat & Dog Turbo Team has a MODE button for suction control and an Active AirClean exhaust filter. Guard is also the only family with decibel ratings: the M1 lists 73 dB, the lowest recorded noise in the Miele roster, and the two Guard L1 models list 75 dB, the brand median. These are spec-sheet figures and not a measure of how loud a vacuum feels in your home. The Classic C1 and Blizzard CX1 records give no noise rating at all, so a quiet Classic is not ruled out, just undocumented here.

Blizzard CX1 is the heaviest family at 19.0 lb (8.6 kg) and lists a 1200 W Vortex motor on the models where motor power is given. The two with a listed capacity show 2.0 L, the smallest in the roster, so expect to empty or change it more often if your home is large. The trade-off for weight is a feature set aimed at filtration, with HEPA lifetime exhaust filters listed on the TurboTeam and Cat & Dog versions.

Bags, filters and HEPA claims

The Guard M1 record names a HyClean Pure CO FilterBag. The other records do not state a bag type, so confirm it on each model page before ordering replacement vacuum bags. The Blizzard CX1 PureSuction PowerLine is the one model described as bagless, with separate coarse and fine dust emptying.

On filters, the Cat & Dog Blizzard lists a HEPA AirClean lifetime filter plus a Gore CleanStream fine dust filter with ComfortClean self-cleaning. HEPA is listed on some models and explicitly absent or not stated on others, so if filtration matters to you, check that the specific model lists it. A HEPA listing describes the filter, not a health outcome.

Checks before you pick a Miele

  • Weight against carrying needs. A 11.5 lb (5.2 kg) Classic C1 and an 19.0 lb (8.6 kg) Blizzard are a real difference if you have stairs.
  • Capacity against home size. The Blizzard's 2.0 L is the smallest listed.
  • Warranty. Only some records state a term (1 or 3 years), and US terms may differ from other markets. Confirm with the seller.
  • Model numbers. Two different products are both called Guard L1, so match the full model number to the listing.
  • Floor type. Floor-head details are not listed for every model, so read the model page for what ships in the box.

If you are comparing across categories, the vacuums page is the broadest starting point, and Dyson cordless options cover the stick format that Miele's listed roster does not.

Does Miele make a cordless or upright vacuum?

Our US Miele roster of 1 models contains only canister vacuums, so we have no Miele cordless, stick or upright model to compare. The Classic C1, Guard and Blizzard CX1 families are all canister designs. If you want a cordless stick or an upright from another brand, our upright and brand hubs list alternatives. Miele may sell other formats that are not covered here, so check the manufacturer's current US range if you need one specifically.

Which Miele models list a HEPA filter?

The Guard L1 Electro, Classic C1 Pure Suction HomeCare and all listed Blizzard CX1 canisters with filter details (the TurboTeam PowerLine and Cat & Dog PowerLine) list HEPA filtration. The Classic C1 Turbo Team and the Guard L1 41GFE037USA are listed without it, and the rest of our 1 Miele models do not state it. Confirm on the model page and the seller listing before buying.
