Bissell CrossWave Versus Shark VacMop: Which Should You Buy?

The Shark VacMop VM252PL is 3.39 kg lighter than the Bissell CrossWave Pet Pro, but the CrossWave is a corded, tank-based cleaner for bigger jobs and carries a longer listed warranty.

Specifications are compiled from manufacturer and retailer listings, not hands-on testing. A listed feature such as a HEPA filter is a specification, not a health or allergy claim.

Which would you pick?

The Shark VacMop VM252PL is 7.47 lb (3.39 kg) lighter than the Bissell CrossWave Pet Pro (3.99 lb (1.81 kg) against 11.5 lb (5.2 kg)), and that gap shapes most of the decision. When you compare the Bissell CrossWave Pet Pro with the Shark VM252PL, the real question is size of job versus convenience. The CrossWave is a corded, upright wet/dry cleaner with clean and dirty water tanks. The VacMop is a small cordless hard-floor vacuum and spray mop that uses disposable pads. They overlap on hard floors, but they are not the same kind of tool.

This page compares them on published specifications and manufacturer descriptions. We have not tested either one.

Corded tank system or cordless pad mop

  • The CrossWave Pet Pro suits a larger home: corded, with separate clean and dirty water tanks and a brush roll, at the cost of storing and maintaining a full-size upright.
  • The VacMop VM252PL suits a smaller space with sealed hard floors, a grab-and-go tool for spills, with a pad you throw away instead of a tank you rinse.

Neither is a general-purpose replacement for a full vacuum on carpet. SharkNinja describes the VacMop as designed for sealed hard floors and does not list carpet use.

Suction wattage, noise level and battery runtime are not given consistently on the manufacturer pages, so we leave them out rather than guess. Bissell rates this class in airwatts, not watts, so it cannot be fairly set against the VacMop's figures.

Weight, power and cleaning method

Weight and storage. At 11.5 lb (5.2 kg) versus 3.99 lb (1.81 kg), the difference is large if you have stairs, a small apartment or limited strength for pushing a full upright. The CrossWave stands about 46 in tall; the VacMop is compact.

Power and reach. The CrossWave's corded 120 V motor does not slow down to a battery limit, and a 25 ft cord covers a good-sized room before you swap outlets. The VacMop runs on a 10.8 V battery with no cord to manage, which suits quick passes across a kitchen or entryway. Run time is not listed on the SharkNinja product page, so check the battery claim before you buy if you have a large floor area.

Cleaning method. The CrossWave uses a rotating brush roll that vacuums and washes in one pass, and its filter and tanks are rinsed. The VacMop sprays solution onto a disposable pad that picks up debris and wet messes. Cleanup is quick, but pads are an ongoing consumable.

Pet messes. Both are marketed for pet households. The CrossWave includes a pet hair strainer and a pet formula. The VacMop's source record tags it for pet hair, but the manufacturer page lists floor type rather than pet-specific features.

Warranty and drawbacks

The listed warranty favors the CrossWave: 3 years against 1 year for the VacMop. Both terms are limited warranties, so read what they cover before treating the longer one as a quality signal.

  • CrossWave: the heavier and bulkier machine, corded, and the tanks have to be emptied and rinsed after use.
  • VacMop: limited to sealed hard floors on the manufacturer page, depends on replacement pads and solution, and its battery details are thin. Some figures come from secondary sources, so confirm the details before you buy.

Both brands offer wider ranges if neither fits: browse shark cordless stick vacuum or the full Shark's own and Bissell vacuums lines, or compare vacuum models across other types.

Choosing by floor type and home size

Pick by floors and space, not by which looks more advanced.

  • Mostly sealed hard floors in a small home, and you value light weight: the VacMop.
  • Mixed hard floors and area rugs, a bigger home, or pets that make large messes: the CrossWave.
  • Heavy spills or a lot of floor in one session: the CrossWave's tank system and corded power are better matched on paper.
  • Occasional touch-ups: the VacMop is easier to grab.

If you are still undecided, open each model's page for the full specs and current offers.

Lightweight vacuum options and small vacuums for apartments are also worth a look if storage space and carrying weight drive your choice.

Is the Shark VacMop safe on all floors?

Not according to SharkNinja. The manufacturer page for the VM252PL says it is designed for sealed hard floors, listing sealed hardwood, vinyl, tile, stone and laminate. It does not mention carpet, rugs or unsealed floors, so do not assume it is suitable there. The Bissell CrossWave Pet Pro, by contrast, is listed by retailers as multi-surface, including area rugs. If you have unsealed wood, check the flooring maker's cleaning guidance before using either machine.

Does the Bissell CrossWave Pet Pro run on a battery?

No. The CrossWave Pet Pro (model 2306A) is a corded 120 V machine with a 25 ft (7.62 m) cord and a 528 W power input, and it has no battery. The Shark VacMop VM252PL is the cordless one, with an included 10.8 V Li-ion battery and an 85 W rating. Cordless convenience on the VacMop comes with a much lighter body at 3.99 lb (1.81 kg) versus 11.5 lb (5.2 kg) for the CrossWave.
